Life:
I was born in the comforting glow of the Hanford nuclear reactor in Richland WA, shipped around the country for a bit only to end up back in Richland for my latter years.
I earned a BS in Biochemistry at WSU under the supervision of Keith Dunker and Zoran Obradovic , where I worked upon development and genomic applications of predictors of protein disorder from primary sequence data. Both have left WSU for greener pastures.
Currently I am a Biochemistry graduate student at UCSF in San Francisco, studying in the lab of Dyche Mullins . Although I am primary a wet lab researcher now now, I still waste incredible amounts of time coding random scripts and projects, and breaking my linux box almost daily.
Research Focus:
My research interests lie within the kinetics and regulation of prokaryotic cytoskeletal polymers. My work focuses upon developing techniques to measure both the bulk and single filament kinetic properties of these molecules. I am developing systems by which we can reconstitute these polymers and their associated factors in a manner so that we can measure and manipulate the interplay between their kinetics, mechanical properties, and biological functions.
Funding:
I'd like to thank NSF for the graduate research fellowship in supplying me with funding.
Software (Projects I am (or was) involved in):
CraigStatsSF - An ongoing spatial database of apartment listings in San Francisco from Craigslist. Complete with hetmaps and spatial overlays.
PONDR - predictor of disordered regions from amino acid sequence
dbPONDR - Large scale genomic analysis of disorder in respect to sequence, structure, motifs, and property/predictor I could get my hands on.
phplabware - point and click web based database frontend for lab administration or whatever you want.
Random Required Links:
slashdot - Geek news.
PLOS - Open source scientific publications.
mandrakelinux - best linux distro for bleeding (if not gushing) edge software
last.fm - what our lab is listening to through my server
" control us " - control our lab stereo! Force us to listen to Cameo over and over.
funkytonk records - The independent label for the Tri-cities area. Good music, good people, horrible town.
nth / exponential media - Digital music of my best friend glenn crowe.
